[/u];;[/blockquote][/blockquote][/size][/font]&&BASIC INFORMATION
Name:
Garyuu, Kaen [abandoned family name]
Age:
18
Alias:
MukLuk [most people know her as MukLuk, and she answers only to MukLuk]
Nation:
[formerly] Fire Nation
[currently] Earth Kingdom
Occupation:
No Formal Occupation
Traveler
Political Standpoint/Allegiance:
Allied with the Earth Kingdom
Is against needless war, but understands the need to fight
Appearance:
;;build
MukLuk is somewhat tall, but mainly is very well toned, and you can see her muscles when she doesn’t have sleeves. She trains constantly, and as such has an athletic build. Her build has advantages mainly in agility and speed; MukLuk is very fast and flexible, and is somewhat like Ty Lee in her acrobatics; often times she’ll hang upside down or stand on her hands for the simple pleasure of doing it or when ever she feels the need.
;;attributes
MukLuk’s hair is unruly and coal black, often looking somewhat disheveled. Her eyes are golden, bright and shining as the sun, and always appear happy. Her features are sharp and angular, giving her a more fierce look that she intends [when she’s angry, she’s quite scary, but that is very rare].
;;clothing
MukLuk doesn’t care much what she wears, so long as it isn’t restricting and is comfortable. Her one trademark that never seems to leave her head is a red woven hat, ordinary but among MukLuk’s most valued possessions. Mostly her clothes depend on the weather. On warmer days, she’ll either wear shorter sleeves or simply no sleeves at all. Most of the time she would wear shirts with long draping sleeves that concealed her hands and pants cut off at the knee. She keeps a small stash of weapons about her and normally has a backpack on, holding various things, including a balloon she designed, that when falling, she can use her fire bending to fuel with hot air [basically a mini-hot air balloon tied to her]. This can also be a method of travel, though it’s pretty slow.
[/u];;[/blockquote][/blockquote][/size][/font]&&COMBAT STRUCTURE
Bending:
Fire Bender [Prodigy]
Weapons:
Her bending and her martial arts.
Combat Style:
MukLuk doesn’t have the standard Firebending style, and is instead flexible and agile, rather than steady and fierce. Her flames aren’t simply blindly shot and she doesn’t release torrents of fire, but rather dances around attacks and tires down her opponent before placing her own attacks. It’s against her policy to kill, so she rather aims to incapacitate or immobilize.
Her martial arts style is similar to that of Ty Lee, flexible and quick, side stepping and filled with acrobatics that MukLuk is quite skilled at. Though she doesn’t quite cartwheel everywhere, she does dance about, almost like a monkey, and will often flip, roll, grab a hold of higher objects and swing. MukLuk’s attacks are somewhat spur of the moment, but she rarely wastes her energy or her effort in battle.
[/u];;[/blockquote][/blockquote][/size][/font]&&BIOGRAPHY
Personality:
MukLuk is carefree, happy, and always finds humor in most situations. She tends to exaggerate, is somewhat theatrical, and has a habit of squealing when she sees something she calls ‘cute’. Her classification of ‘cute’ things is flawed from other perspective [for instance, she saw a Hyena and though it was the cutest thing she ever saw] and is unperturbed by any threats made by said animal or object, and often has to be dragged away to avoid being harmed.
It’s terribly hard to make her angry, but once you do, you’ve awaken the demon. She becomes a completely different person, and often loses her sense of morals. It can either lead her to become indifferent of whether her opponent or said person lives or dies and makes forget to moderate her power when fighting, unleashing seas of white fire upon the objects of her anger.
However, that is incredibly hard to do, and MukLuk doesn’t get mad without reason. She doesn’t have that short of a fuse and will often just grin and laugh at attempted insults. She tends to be very playful and is like an overgrown child; her saying is, “Growing old is inevitable. Growing up is optional.” So she is quite a child at heart.
Some tend to think of her as annoying, not that she cares. MukLuk is overly hyper, many times, and will often leap upon other people, glomping them, tackling them, balancing on their shoulders, hanging upside down in front of them, etc.
So yeah, MukLuk in a nutshell.
History:
Garyuu, Torobi was a Fire Nation general, prone to bouts of anger, a heavy drinker, and a loyalist, supporting the war and wanting nothing more than to spend his days killing Earth Kingdom soldiers. Young and pretty Yuugao was forced into an arranged marriage with him and bore him a son first, and then four years afterwards, a daughter.
The son was named Ryu, in honor of the family name.
The daughter was named Kaen.
Torobi, overjoyed that his first born was a son who took after him in every way, spent his time training him for the army. Young Kaen was left to herself and Yuugao, seeing her neglect, spent most of her time with her daughter. Ryu never took note of his younger sister, too busy reveling in his father’s love and attention.
Yuugao and Kaen became close and did most everything together, and sense Kaen didn’t show any signs of bending in her early ages and so Yuugao taught her various tasks about the house; cooking, cleaning, sewing, and otherwise. Eventually, though, Torobi decided it was time for his children to attend school, and so Ryu was sent to Military School and Kaen was sent to a regular school where children learned various things; Math, History, and such.
Kaen’s English teacher was named Hishou, Hayabusa, a retired Fire Nation soldier who had been crippled in the War. From talking with him, she learned he was also an accomplished Fire Bender.
When Kaen told Torobi of Hayabusa and his class, Torobi was thrown into a rage, calling him various names; ‘cripple’ and ‘traitor’ among them. When Yuugao tried to calm him, he slapped her and Kaen ran from the room. That night, her mother sat in the kitchen weeping, bruised and beaten.
Kaen tended to her wounds and lived in distress, not sure what to do, but knew that she would never again trust her father’s ideals. His lust for war and violence threw her beliefs in the other direction; Kaen longed for peace and saw that there were other paths rather destruction and war. Kaen didn’t see the Earth Kingdom and Water Tribe people as her father did, ‘peasant rabbles who needed to be set straight’. She saw them as proud people being unfairly invaded.
Hayabusa noticed Kaen’s growing distress and asked her what was wrong, and without thinking she poured everything out to him. He sighed and nodded and explained that he wasn’t supportive of the war; most loyalists called him a traitor, and he had been drafted into the war for his bending. He also had learned from his father, who had opposed the war from its start, how to bend without using anger or any other emotion as a medium.
Kaen went home that night with a lighter burden, knowing there was someone she could turn to outside the family.
That night, Ryu came back bruised and angry. His father was enraged and demanded to know what had happened. “Benders happened. They thought that I didn’t deserve to be in the military because I’m not a Fire Bender.” He grunted and reached for some ice. Torobi slammed his fist on the table and knocked Kaen’s plate of dinner off, but took no notice.
“Well, show them what you’re made of! Kick their asses!” Torobi yelled, but Yuugao looked unsure. “I don’t think violence is the right-” She was slapped hard across the face. “Shut up, wench! I’m trying to talk to my son!” Kaen rose from her seat and took her plate from the floor, and with great aim, smacked her father over the head so hard it broke. Ryu was shocked, and Yuugao looked scared for her daughter, looking at her with wide eyes.
Torobi didn’t even seem affected and raised a fist to strike her, which Kaen sidestepped and grabbed it. Without realizing it, white flame had bloomed in her hand and burned her father’s skin off. With a howl, he dropped to the floor, and Kaen stepped back, looking at her hands, confused.
“Get out.” Her father snarled, holding his hand to his chest. “Both of you.” Yuugao rose from her seat and took Kaen along gently, but making a quick side trip up to the room and taking a lump sum of money. “We’re going to be needing it, I guess.” She looked sad but walked away with her daughter.
“Where can we go?” She sighed, and Kaen could only think of one place. In case of emergency, Hayabusa had given her directions to his home and so she arrived at his front door, and he hardly seemed surprised and brought them in. Kaen offered a short explanation and he accepted it, guessing it was bound to happen at some point.
“You knew I was a bender?” Hayabusa shrugged. “I suspected. Not the same. But I saw something in you.” “Why is my flame white?” He pondered for a moment and then said, “I believe it’s a state of mentality. White represents a sort of peace, and it is far different from white. This probably comes from your longing for peace and not battle.” He looked at her for a moment. “It’s time for you to learn.” They began their first lesson that day, Yuugao watching but seeming numb from shock at the same time. Kaen, however, adjusted very nicely to life in Hayabusa’s home. Their lessons went along, and Hayabusa developed another suspicion; Kaen mastered nearly ever move he threw at her with surprising ease. He thought that maybe the girl could be a prodigy.
Along with Bending, he taught her some martial arts, something he himself could no longer do beyond punches [which were quite effective when used correctly]. He made her do rigorous exercises, taught her what it meant to be quick and agile. Her frame made it easier for her to be the agile type, evading attacks and making effective blows. She became quite lithe and nimble, quick on her feet, and soon found it amusing to do her acrobats in every day things. She would hang upside down and talk to her mother, acting as if it were perfectly normal.
Her bending and martial arts were great, but the girl lacked some common sense and survival skills, leading a pampered life that was always directed by others. He taught her some basics, but when he had just begun his lessons of survival, a friend sent word to him that Torobi was coming with soldiers in tow.
Hayabusa didn’t panic like Yuugao did and maintained a level head. “Yuugao, give Kaen enough money to board a navy ship bound for the Earth Kingdom. The latter of the piers hold those ships, and the soldiers are prone to bribes.” Yuugao reluctantly held the money out and Kaen retrieved out. “What about you and mother?” “I’ll take care of us. Go. Find the rebellion. I’ll meet you there.”
Kaen, worried but obedient, quickly escaped and bribed her way onto a boat. A grizzled old war veteran eyed her curiously. “What’s your name?” He asked while they were about their way. Kaen looked at a servant passing by and her eyes wandered towards his shoes. Water Tribe shoes, she remembered. Called MukLuks, effective in water. “MukLuk.” She answered, and from then on, that was how she thought of herself.
The veteran smiled and then was her sort of ‘protector’ for the rest of the journey, diverting the gazes and attentions of the older soldiers from her. When she made it on Earth Kingdom soil, she thanked him and quickly fled into the woods.
MukLuk. That was her name now. Odd to think about, but it fit her; it was unique.
She wandered for some time; weeks turned into months and she had used up her money and was forced to resort to stealing, something she was ashamed of. MukLuk became emaciated, skinny and weak. It was one day when walking along in the forest that her strength gave out and she collapsed o the forest, starving and too tired to lift herself up.
Sorry, Hayabusa-sensei. Sorry, mother. Guess I didn’t make it.
She drifted and slept the sleep of death.
But when she awoke, she knew death wasn’t this painful. Her bones ached and she felt as if she had bruises on every inch of her body. Her eyes opened to find Hayabusa asleep at her bedside and a plate of food beside her. Before she could process the fact that her old sensei was beside her, she had devoured the food and woken Hayabusa with her noise.
MukLuk was surprised when he took her and hugged her so tight she thought she might choke. “Kaen…” It was odd hearing her name again. “I’m MukLuk now.” She replied. He laughed for a moment and then his eyes darkened again. “I thought you were dead.” He muttered, and she only replied with a wide grin. “Yeah. So did I.” With one glance about the room, she didn’t seem to be dampened by his grave mood. “Can I get some more food? I’m starving.”
He laughed and called in her mother, who came with a platter of food. While MukLuk devoured her food, she looked up and saw something had changed between her mother and her sensei. They were holding hands, looking at each other with softness she had never seen between Torobi and Yuugao.
Things couldn’t have been better.
Ruining the moment, she squealed and leapt upon the two, holding them together. “Oh, you two are so cuuuute together~!” Hayabusa rolled his eyes while smiling and Yuugao laughed while blushing slightly, but neither of them denied her assumptions. “So, when’s the wedding?” Hayabusa and Yuugao seemed to jump at the same time. “It’s a little early to start thinking about that! Yuugao protested, and it was MukLuk’s turn to roll her eyes.
Adults, she swore.
Hayabusa showed her where they had been staying, where they had been waiting for her; it was an underground network of tunnels with an above ground set of stables surrounded by stone walls, making it look like a natural formation.
MukLuk’s lessons continued with Hayabusa and she improved further. She gained back her weight, at least until she didn’t look like a starving orphan child. And Hayabusa, one night while they were casually watching the stars, told her that she was a prodigy. MukLuk had never seen another child learning, so she didn’t know how far she had progressed. But already she was advanced, better than many and bending not from anger but self discipline and willpower.
But nonetheless, she was shocked. Instead, though, she didn’t let this get to her head but instead used it as an excuse to train harder than ever; so no one would be able to say she hadn’t worked for her skill.
It was some months later that Hayabusa announced he had a gift for MukLuk, and she blinked. “Really?” He smiled and took her to the stables where his mount was, and for the first time she met his Gryphon. “Her name is Tobutori. It means ‘Soaring Bird’.” He smiled and stroked her head for a moment. “She laid eggs a few months ago and I consulted a scholar, who said they should be hatching today.” He turned and gave her a grin. “So I though you should get first pick.”
There were three eggs; the first two were female and looked just like their mother, but the third was a male who was mostly black with flecks of brown about him and a fully black head. He looked at her and let out a squeak, and she picked him and squealed, overreacting like she normally did. “He’s soooo cuute~! Aww, look at him, so little and cuuute and adorable-” And then he threw up on her shirt. She paused for a moment before hugging him again. “Aww, poor wittle baby, puking~” Hayabusa rolled his eyes but laughed nonetheless. “What’s his name gonna be?”
She turned. “Well, I have decided he is to be named Hayabusa, after my wonderful mentor!” He started to protest, but she shook her head. “Final. His name is Hayabusa.” He sighed. “So we’ll start training him in a month.” She smiled and leapt with a whoop and landed on Hayabusa’s shoulders [the human]. “Good! Now mush!” She was promptly dumped on the ground. “Go change shirts.”
Months went by. Hayabusa, the Gryphon, grew faster than she would have believed. Soon, he was large enough to carry her on his back running, and he could fly quite well without her burden. A month later, she went flying for the first time and spent the whole day in the sky, squealing with her ecstasy.
MukLuk was a greatly skilled bender by now, better than most in the Fire Nation army and growing with her skill. She was flexible and quick on her feet [and though she had her theatricals still, flipping about and what not] and was good with Hayabusa. Hayabusa had become her father and her mother was there whenever she needed her.
And then came Sozen’s comet.
MukLuk felt the greatest power she had ever known, compared to the emptiness she had felt on the solar eclipse. That day she had spent her time working on Martial Arts, but on this day she spent time defending her home.
Fire Benders fell before her. She was overcome by a lust she had never known, and her white flames scorched the battle field. Hayabusa watched the prodigy with awe, and despite the fact that he loved the power himself, she seemed something akin to a Goddess on that day and was mainly what saved the rebellion home. She seemed to have no recollection of the day, but everyone held her in high regards. MukLuk looked at the scorched lands and was amazed.
And then the rebellion learned of the peace. MukLuk and Hayabusa were unsure, but MukLuk wanted to see the world in this ‘peace’. Hayabusa looked at her and said, “Don’t be surprised if find this peace is less than it seems.” She knew this.
Still, she and Hayabusa [the Gryphon] left one day, with a promise to return and to always practice her bending and martial arts.
It was upon visiting a volcano, something that she had never seen before, that she found her next companion. When she dismounted Hayabusa and was gazing about, she heard hissing, and at first thought it was a snake.
What she saw was something akin to a Mongoose Dragon, but much smaller [about the length of her arm] with a more elongated body and small wings folded on its back, and a bright vibrant green.
It seemed to be attempting to scare her, but instead she thought it was incredibly cute, and was just about to rush forward and hug it and squeal it and give it a silly name when Hayabusa approached it, observed the hissing and spitting creature, and then attempted to eat it.
“ACK. No, Hayabusa! Spit him out, now!” Hayabusa, glaring at her with his mouth writhing as the creature attempted to free himself, finally spit it out. The creature landed on the ground, covered in spit and grew quite angry, letting out a torrent of slime that struck a plant and turned it to ashes. The little thing spat acid.
But rather than being scared or discouraged, MukLuk only squealed and grabbed the little creature and squeezed it. It was about to spit acid all over her until she offered it food in the form of raisins. “You’re name is Issun now, because it’s cute, just like you~!” He didn’t really understand her, but the raisins were heaven on earth for him. He decided maybe he liked her enough to hang around. As long as she kept the raisins coming.
But nothing could make him like Hayabusa, who always would attempt to eat him when he would throw a fit.
And so MukLuk, with Hayabusa and Issun with her, travels the world, training, and feeding Issun raisins to keep him satisfied.
[And I talked all of this over with Kidate, so yeah. >>][/size]
