Name: Li Mai Sangue
Age: 26
Alias: The Fox
Nation: Water Tribe
Occupation: Bounty Hunter
Political Standpoint/Allegiance: Bounty Hunters Elite/Her brother
Appearance:
Li Mai's long, dark hair is kept in a single braid. Her eyes are the blue of the Water Tribe, and her skin the tan color. She normally wears a golden-yellow dress that slits at the hips, and a pair of black tight shorts below that. The 'sleeves' hide her hands most of the time, and hidden in them are a number of different metal weapons. Along her thigh she normally keeps a skin that holds water for bending (not shown in picture). Her shoes are the same color as her dress, and made of cloth. Her height is about 5'2", so she's somewhat on the short side. Her snake tattoo resides on the dead center of her back.
/Combat Structure\
Bending: Water
Weapons: Her body and bending
Combat Style: Li Mai uses her waterbending to create knives, needles, and occasionally swords out of ice. While she is actually fairly weak with her bending, practice makes perfect, so all her projectiles are expert She is instead much more fond of waiting and watching, sniping a target when an attack is least expected, or most opportune. She is very flexible, as well as an excellent climber, so she can be almost anywhere at anytime. This also shows up in her fighting, as Li Mai will often run up walls or scale a tree and snipe like that.
/Biography\
Personality: Li Mai is cool and calculating. Her face is almost always an expressionless mask, and 90 percent of those slip ups will be exasperation. Mostly at her twin, Yuuki. Clever might as well be her middle name, as she always has a plan at the ready. Her practicality also comes in handy with her scheming, so Li Mai's plans are normally made so the targets are killed in the quickest and least messy way, much to her brother's dismay. Despite this, Li Mai cares nothing for her targets, the people around them, or even most of her family. In fact, the only person she seems to care for is Yuuki.
Messes are annoying, and grate on her meticulous ways. Li Mai is almost OCD neat, keeping her bags in perfect working order and making ice weapons over and over until they're exactly right. However, this perfectionism can thankfully be turned off in times of need, so she won't spend half a battle trying to a her knife to the exact right length. However, this does mean that when targeting someone she will take days making a plan foolproof.
Despite the annoyance of keeping up her appearance to such a degree, Li Mai enjoys her delicate looks. The underestimation she gains for such a thing is priceless, and it aid infiltration a great deal. After all, who would think that the dainty little girl in the corner of the room could kill you before you even notice you've been hit?
In short, don't cross Li Mai. You will regret it.
History: Li Mai's mother was a waterbending from the Northern Water Tribe who, though she was powerful, was only allowed to learn healing. Jasna eventually became content with this, and trained hard to be the best she could. Between this, and her desire to help out in the war on the Fire Nation, she was enlisted to go as a nurse to the men fighting. At first, the somewhat sheltered 21 year old was absolutely horrified at the blood and fighting, but quickly grew used to it. She served well as a healer, getting in and out quickly, and healing everything short of a missing limb with finesse.
Eventually, Jasna was combing a shore, looking for still alive soldiers she could save, when she saw a Fire Nation soldier not to much younger than her unconscious on the ground. He was cut up in several places, and had an obvious gash on his head. She knew that if she did not help, he could die of blood loss, but it would be a slow and excruciating process. So, she did the only thing her conscience would allow. She healed him.
Rikudo, the young man, was at first slightly sickened that he had been saved by a water tribe, but since Jasna was quite pretty, he quickly got over it. He 'thanked' her that night on the beach, before he went to find his comrades, and she left to find hers.
In a week she was sent back to the Northern Water Tribe.
In nine months she gave birth to twins. They were Li Mai and Yuuki.
Jasna told no one of their lineage, and while other were curious and gossip was spewed left and right, the other woman and men of the Northern Water Tribe remained oblivious. The children grew up seeming perfectly ordinary, and soon the mystery of their father faded as new gossip came along. In fact, the others were down right helpful after a while, young men often bring extra food around to help provide. It seemed Jasna's night would go unpunished.
The belief was only added too when Li Mai turned five, and she began to show ability for waterbending. Jasna was thrilled, and took her to all sorts of instructors for tutelage. However, it seemed Li Mai was not strong in her bending, despite her mother's ability. Disappointed, but figuring it was the fault of the father's genes, Jasna encouraged Li Mai to practice, but not to get worked up over it.
Li Mai's weakness drew bullies like a moth to flame, but the girl's personality made them grow bored of her quickly. However, it had the added effect of making her undesirable as a friend. Her blandness only seemed to add to that, getting her written off as 'plain'. The girl was pushed closer to her brother, and the two spent all their time together, bonds growing as they tend to between twins, almost like a mental connection, despite being non-identical.
The girl herself was a perfectionist, even at such a young age, so she began to practice making shapes with ice as practice. She started using her mother's needles (used for making clothes), practicing until she could make them perfectly thin and sharp, and control them to make a gentle, if clumsy, stitching pattern. Then Li Mai began practicing with skinning knives, then spears blades, anything of the sort. Things she could test the effectiveness on fish and the like. However, she never got the hang of healing, no matter what she need.
The years passed quickly, until the twins here both eight. It was then that Yuuki began to show bending abilities of his own. And he was a firebender.
All those who had helped them, who had lived beside them, who had been so nice to them, turned. They realized the reason for Jasna's silence on the father's identity, and began to hate her for her betrayal. The children were hated far more, however, especially Yuuki. Things were thrown at them in the streets, people spoke horrible things straight to their faces, and the bullies gained a new found interest in the two. Both quickly learned that the best way to defend themselves was the draw the first blood, and to work together. The bullies would normally scamper off after that, but they both got beat up often enough.
It only took a month for Jasna to take the twins and leave. The three of them traveled to the Fire Nation, using all the money they had over a two month period. At the end of that, they found Rikudo.
Surprisingly, the man opened his arms to them, despite his animosity for Water Tribe. He and Jasna got into a relationship that, while not exactly loving, suited them both. Rikudo took to being a father with surprising ease of mind. However, his mental position was not the best for the kids.
Yuuki was treated well, given tutors and trainers to help him perfect his firebending. His natural bloodlust was strengthened by encouragement, and he was taught to channel his frustrations into his bending.
Li Mai, on the other hand, was told to dismiss her bending, and was instead taught martial arts, to become deadly with blades. However, he did let her experiment with her bended needles, seeing the purpose and cleverness behind them, despite his abhorrence for the art itself. He made it perfectly clear how he felt about Water Tribe.
Despite Rikudo's insistence that Yuuki drop ties with his sister as soon as possible, the two were already closer than he could ever be. His pushing only made the bonds between them stronger, even as they grew. At 18, both were deadly, and they were as emotionally connected as two such as them could be. Together, they attempted to join the Fire Nation army, if only because it seemed like the only thing they could do with their skills. While Yuuki as accepted easily, Li Mai's bending meant she was rejected without a second thought.
Rather than leave his sister and join the army, the two left to travel together, not knowing what they could possibly do. That is, of course, until they began to see wanted posters, and actually think about them. And, in that moment, door number two had opened. Bounty Hunters.
With their skills, and their ability to pair up seamlessly, the two quickly gained rank, the money for their kills seeming to poor in. While at first they had mainly hunted for enemies of the Fire Nation, being away from home meant that the flimsy ties they had to their father were snapped (at least, that's how it was for Li Mai).
At 23, the duo had gained something of an infamous feel to them, and they were extended an invitation to join the Bounty Hunters Elite. And even now Li Mai and Yuuki work together in tandem, taking out any and all that have a bounty on their head.
Door number two works for them, after all.
