Experience: I've been RPing for...four years now? Five? I honestly can't remember. But, I've became an admin my second site, and I have been part of five or six at once (though not anymore, for my sanity if nothing else). I also tutor n00bs, and work as a editor on Fanfiction.net, and on Live Journal.
Activity: I try to get on everyday, but there are times when I'll mysteriously vanish for a few days if things get busy. Also, when I have Newspaper, and things are busy, then I might leave for a month or two. I try not to, though.
/Basic Info\
Name: Kidate Etai
Age: 27
Alias: Kida, and Kiddo (though, really, only call her that if you don't want your limbs)
Nation: Earth Kingdom
Occupation: Noblewoman (by blood, not by choice), poker shark, character judge, part time writer, and basically anything she needs to be.
Political Standpoint/Allegiance: Earth Kingdom, above all, but she strongly believes in the Avatar, as well as the new Fire Lord and their supporters. Kidate believes in them, because she can tell they believe in their words and ideals (and she's d**n good at picking up that sort of thing).
Appearance:
Although I have pictures, I suppose I ought to write it out. Kidate has red hair- amber in color- and green eyes. Except for her bangs, the red strands are kept back in two thick braids that end about mid-neck. If she took them out of their style, they would curl. However, this keeps them out of her face, which is what she desires above all.
Her shirt is black, sleeveless, and ends at her midriff. Over her heart is a small Earth Nation emblem, in gold. Her pants are dark green kakis that have a layer of lighter green pockets running along the sides (two long ones on both legs). These pockets are rather deep, and can hold a good number of supplies. The ends are tied into place with gold and black wrappings, so they don't flap around awkwardly.
Instead of real shoes, Kidate wears a pair of cloth, which has been cut off at the toes, so that she can feel the earth and bend it better. She also wears strange, two layered gloves. The top layer are dark green and are fingerless, except on the pointer and middle fingers, where they extend to just below the top knuckle, and end just shy of her palm. The lower set is light green, and universally ends below the lowest knuckle, as well as a few inches down the wrist.
/Combat Structure\
Bending: Earth, intermediate
Weapons: She's been known to use a bow and arrow, or a naginata, but if she's traveling she just uses bending, and a small dagger used more for everyday needs than battle.
Combat Style: Because her style is almost waterbender-esque in design, Kidate is a natural with sand, but she's still strong with normal rock. Fond of using an enemie's force against them, she'll often let the enemy tire themselves out, using earthbending in choice spots to cause the most damage with as little energy as possible. Also, because she lacks a lot of the sheer muscle mass users of some earthbenders, Kidate will use rocks to block blows, holding them in the way of an attack. It can also be an effective counter.
Kidate is also very fond of the rock-bullet technique the Avatar used against Ozai. While she has had limited success reproducing it, it does hold promise, and might pull through if the situation is desperate.
/Biography\
Personality: Normally sarcastic and dry, Kidate has limited patience of idiots. And, being somewhat on the intelligent side, that's a good many people. She's pessimistic in the best situations, and down to earth no matter what the cost. Denial is something she is so firmly against that showing it (except in extreme cases) will get you a scathing rant about how you and your entire family should be ashamed. But, for the most part, Kidate doesn't really care what you do, as long as it doesn't interfere with her plans. With her friends, she becomes fiercely loyal, and if you mess with them, prepare for the consequences.
She's a sort of second-in-command person - someone who's in the background, but pulling the strings. Kidate has no qualms about manipulating allies and friends, though she reserves this for more dire situations. She's also very tactic oriented- a wait and listen type person, if you will. If you have a battle plan, it would behoove you to have her help you plan a strategy.
On the flip side(s), her personality changes slightly depending on what she'd doing at the time. While playing poker, she can turn into somewhat of a sadist, taking everything you own without a single murmur of her conscience. Being a talented cheater and slight of the hand, it's rare that she get's caught, or has a situation that she can't slip herself some prize winning cards. Despite this, she her natural luck is horrible. Also, she can be suddenly childish, doing things just because. It's a small glitch in her personality she can't really seem to control when it happens. It generally occur when she lets her guard down, and even then mostly around friends. Battles are safe from this, thankfully.
History: Kidate was born to a noble family of no real importance in Ba Sing Se. From a small child, she was always told what was and wasn't proper. She was not to run, was not to get dirty, was not to play, was not to slouch, was not to laugh so hard her mouth would open wide, was not to rip her dresses, was not to...was not to do anything that wasn't sit and be a pretty doll for onlookers. Her sisters- 6 older ones- were the examples she was held to. They did nothing that was not sanctioned by their parents.
And a certain little girl was not a good listener when it came to her parents.
Dresses were ripped to make it easier to run around and play, red hair would be almost indistinguishable from the dirt she would collect, cuts and scratches were common, the works. At first, her parents wrote it off. Just a childish phase- it was something she would outgrow. Until the girl developed bending.
That was no good to her parents. Neither of them were benders (though it wasn't uncommon in either family), and they both saw bending as something left to soldiers and grunts. Not for nobles. Not for a lady. They both began enforcing the rules they had set much harsher, keeping guards on her for 'her protection', to keep her from playing and stopping any opportunity to bend. Her friends grew away and forgot her with the ease of childhood. Kidate grew more lonely, more desperate to get away, as she realized how unfair it all was. She had a gift, in her eyes, one that was being wasted as her parents denied it.
And, when Kidate turned 15, it all went downhill. In an effort to gain political favor, her parents set her up to be married in two months to the son of a much more powerful family. Normally, the 'honor' would have gone to the sister slightly older then her (about to turn 18 at the time), but since the family had no recent history of bending, as well as a known distain for benders, they hoped that being held by that family would disabuse any notion of working with her abilities.
That went to plan. Not.
Having been stocking her quite large allowance for the past five or so years, Kidate had a sizeable sum of cash to her name, and the determination to get away. So, a week before she would have been married off, she ran away to the lower area of Ba Sing Sei. There she worked at a tea shop for a while. In the lower area she picked up the game of poker, and picked up the art of the slight of a hand. For a while, she was content with her life. But, she still had now idea how to control her bending, except for the very basics she had managed to pick up on her own. So, Kidate left Ba Sing Sei, making the journey to Omashu, to visit her great-uncle- the only member of her family who she knew was a bender.
The girl had no idea what to expect of her uncle. It was amazing that she mustered up the trust to even go there. But, the man was probably the last thing she expected. He was really old- over 100, but still as strong as ever. Also, he was slightly off his rocker. Okay, scratch that. He was very much off his rocker. However, he was a patient teacher, and a kind heart, and so completely unlike the rest of her family that Kidate quickly grew to love him. Not only that, but she was encouraged to get dirty, to learn about the goings on in the world, to play poker. Kidate got access to all the wonderful libraries in Omashu, to the history and the culture that spewed from every rock.
After 6 years of training, her uncle declared that he had done all he could for her. Now, Kidate had to find her own way of bending- make her own style. Disappointed at having to leave the only place her heart could call home, but realizing the necessity, Kidate set off again, still having all that saved up money, as well as what she had earned doing odd jobs and playing poker. She traveled all over, doing everything from helping farmers till their land to fighting off Fire Nation soldiers. Experiencing the truth of the war for the first time, Kidate felt her resolve grew. But, even so, the soldiers never got her hate. She was a realist. Those men and woman probably didn't want to be there just as much as the farmers didn't. Forced enlistment was not uncommon, and these were just people. Instead, she began hating the higher-ups for forcing the soldiers to Earth Kingdom. But, she never really took up as a soldier, believing that she was doing more good in improving her bending and helping free the villages she came across.
Kidate also spent a year at the Great Desert, and using her knowledge of how waterbending works, developed her style to what is today. After the Avatar defeated Ozai, she left the desert. After all, she was a realist, and she knew that this was when she'd be needed the most. Peace was not going to come easy. There was going to be fights. There was going to be rebellion. But, Kidate really respected the Avatar, and the more she heard about Fire Lord Zuko, the more she liked his ideals.
Now she works with her country in helping track down rebellions and stopping them from interfering with the peace making- from any country.
